Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 35-year-old man who engaged in unprotected sexual activity with a sex worker while on a business trip. I am troubled by certain symptoms I have been experiencing, including fever, chills, mouth soreness, and observed rashes. The sexual encounter involved oral sex as well. Could these symptoms indicate HIV or AIDS? What tests are available to confirm if I have contracted the virus? Are there specific tests for early detection, and when should I undergo testing for accurate results? Additionally, should I take any immediate action to address these symptoms or prevent transmission? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Since it was unprotected sex, I suggest you consider various sexually transmitted diseases. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) symptoms may take three to six months to manifest, and other sexually transmitted diseases could also be responsible for the symptoms you are experiencing.

I suggest getting tested for:

  1. TPHA (treponema pallidum hemagglutination).

  2. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) 1+2 IgG (Immunoglobulin G).

  3. Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) 1+2 IgM (Immunoglobulin M).

  4. Serum chlamydia tachomatis IgG.

  5. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) 4th generation antigen antibodies and screening test.

  6. HbsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen).

  7. Urine complete analysis.

It is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for proper guidance and interpretation of the test results.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
