Stem cells are human cells that develop into many different cell types in the body. The two main forms of stem cells are embryonic stem cells (these cells result from an in vitro fertilization procedure) and adult stem cells (these cells come from fully developed tissues such as the brain, skin, and bone marrow). The stem cells divide into daughter cells under favorable conditions in the body or a laboratory. They help repair, restore, replace, and regenerate cells. The stem cells nowadays used to treat diseases are hematopoietic stem cells. They are the adult stem cells found in the bone marrow.
