What are the treatment options for sciatica nerve pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello Doctor,

I want your advice on which type of Ayurvedic or Unani medication I should use. I used anti-inflammatory drugs for a few months and now want to strengthen my kidneys. I still use tobacco and want to strengthen and treat my respiratory tract and lungs. I have sciatic nerve problems due to trauma to my knee and fibula. Sometimes I need many massages to walk without pain. This is also due to being 35 kilos overweight. I want to start running again. It feels like a dream, but I have started doing morning exercises.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to iCliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, managing your health concerns begins with adopting a detoxifying diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, while avoiding processed foods, excessive salt, fried items, and refined sugars. Herbal remedies can play a key role in supporting your organs.

  1. Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa): Known for its kidney-regenerating and anti-inflammatory properties, it helps reduce swelling and water retention.

  2. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris): Supports urinary tract health and enhances overall kidney function.

  3. Varunadi Vati: A classical Ayurvedic formulation traditionally used to maintain balance in the kidney and urinary systems.

To support your respiratory health, practicing gentle yoga asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) such as Anulom Vilom and Bhramari can be very beneficial, as they improve lung capacity, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being. Additionally, it is important to maintain a healthy weight through regular physical activity, stay well-hydrated with clean filtered water, and completely avoid tobacco and other irritants. Regular monitoring of your kidney function under the supervision of a healthcare provider is also advised to track progress and ensure safety.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
