Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter has started developing underarm hairs and breasts. She is only 8 years old but quite taller than others of her age. Is it possible to delay her puberty until 13 to 14 years old, when she starts understanding these things? Is it possible to delay the early onset of puberty symptoms in an 8-year-old girl with the help of Siddha medicine?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You can not postpone hormonal changes with any system of medicine as it will affect the kid's health. Dietary changes can be of help in your case. Avoid packaged and ready-made food items. If possible, provide homemade food and snacks all the time. Use native oils and spices in food. A vigorous workout of 20 to 40 minutes daily will be of good help since a sedentary lifestyle will advance puberty. It is necessary to do the above things for the best results. All the secondary sexual characteristics like breast development and underarm hairs will develop a few years ahead, so do not worry about that. Height may be a genetic trait.

Patient's Query

Thank you, doctor.

I used to make her drink milk mixed with PediaSure as she was very lean. Other than that, we feed her almost with homemade food only. Can that be why she develops these changes early than others of her age? Are these hormonal changes to be worried for precocious puberty?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In my view, it is not recommended to give any health drink as they always contain concentrated milk solid and other taste enhancers that will add up to glucose reserve, which is further changed into fat for storage. So, kindly avoid them. Fat plays a significant role in hormone production. Taking fatty food does not always lead to fat build-up, but too many carbohydrates or sugar is the main reason for fat in our body. So please take note of it while giving food to your child. Add lean meat and vegetables more and reduce intakes of staple food like rice and wheat.

Thank you
