Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I went to the bathroom to pee, and a male member of the family left the bathroom about two minutes before I went in. I saw an almost large, wet spot on the surface of the toilet seat, which looked like water exactly. I wanted to check whether it was water, so I touched it with my fingers, and it felt like water too between my fingers. then I washed my hand only with water from the handheld bidet sprayer for three to five seconds, then after at least five minutes during which I peed, I washed my vaginal area with the same hand and water from the handheld bidet sprayer running down on the vulva and vagina. I did not finger or touch the vaginal opening directly but touched and cleaned the fourchette area thoroughly. Is there any risk of pregnancy if the wetness is pre-ejaculate or ejaculate? What if it was ejaculate mixed with water that I did not recognize?
Please advise.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com
Thank you for sharing details about your situation.
Sperm cells need to be alive and enter the vagina directly to cause pregnancy. In your scenario, even if the wetness was semen or pre-ejaculate mixed with water (though likely just water), after being on a toilet seat for two minutes and then touched by your fingers, the chance of sperm surviving is very, very low.
Rinsing your hands with water for a few seconds and then waiting at least five minutes further decreases the chance of sperm survival. Sperm do not live long outside the body, especially in these conditions (water, air exposure, and no direct transfer to the vaginal canal).
No direct insertion of semen into the vagina occurred.
Let us now address your concerns and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). OCD can heighten intrusive thoughts about contamination and pregnancy risk. Your actual risk in this situation is practically zero. If these concerns continue to trouble you, consider discussing them with a therapist specializing in OCD or your primary care provider.
If you experience significant anxiety or are concerned about the worsening of your OCD symptoms, consult a specialist doctor.
Conclusion: There is no realistic risk of pregnancy from this situation. Sperm exposed to air and water for even a short time are not viable for causing pregnancy, especially without direct transfer to the vaginal canal.
I hope this answers your query.
