Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have regular periods every month on the same date, but this time I did not get a period on the same day. I have had sexual intercourse. Is it because I am not getting a period?
And after 10 days, I took the Meprate tablet. I stopped the tablet and got my period within two days. Is there a chance of pregnancy?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Thanks for sharing your question clearly. To explain your situation clearly: You usually have regular periods on the same date every month. But this time, you did not get your period.
You had sexual intercourse on that day. You took Meprate (a medication that induces withdrawal bleeding) and had bleeding for a few days. After stopping Meprate, you get your period, and you are worried that there is a chance of pregnancy.
Since you missed your period and you had unprotected sex on that day, pregnancy is possible, but a few points to consider:
Pregnancy usually causes a missed period, but since you had bleeding after taking Meprate, this bleeding is withdrawal bleeding induced by the medication, not a natural period.
Bleeding after Meprate can occur even if you are pregnant (though uncommon). So the bleeding you had may not necessarily mean you are not pregnant.
The only way to be sure is to take a pregnancy test. You can do a urine pregnancy test at least two weeks after the date of your missed period. Or get a blood test done at your doctor’s clinic.
Here is what you can do next:
If you want to be sure, take a pregnancy test now if you have not done so already. If the test is positive, see your doctor for further guidance.
If negative and your periods continue normally, it is less likely that you are pregnant.
If you have irregular bleeding or missed periods often, discuss with your doctor for further evaluation.
Meprate contains a hormone (Medroxyprogesterone) that can help induce bleeding, but does not prevent pregnancy or confirm that pregnancy is not present.
I hope you find this helpful.
Thank you.
