What is the best allergy treatment for me at 23?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old. I have a lot of allergies. Allergies are to almost everything. 15 to 16, to be precise; I have attached reports of my prick test. I get stomach problems, hyperacidity, indigestion, hives (urticaria), sinus, breathing problems, and my eyelids and a part below that stays swollen almost all year round.

My weight fluctuates a lot. There is a difference of two to four pounds in the morning and evening measurements. Things stay under control when I take about two antihistamines a day, 2500+ mg of Vitamin C, and occasionally vitamin D; management is complex. I have tried diet changes and everything. Bromelain helps, too. I also have anxiety issues, for which having 25 ml of rum every night helps me and stops me from getting so frustrated that I stop everything.

I am allergic to ghee, neem, wheat, dust, paper dust, cats, mice, fish, chicken, milk, milk products, and a few more insignificant things I cannot recall. Immunotherapy will not work; that is what my last doctor said, and well, to be honest, it was so expensive I could not have gone for it anyway. Please give me something so I can reduce the number of medicines I take. I was actually looking for a mast cell stabilizer, which brought me here.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Cromolyn (Cromoglicic acid) is a mast cell stabilizer. Sodium cromoglycate is the chemical name for it. It would help if you tried allergen avoidance. That is the only way. An allergy to so many substances will make immunotherapy very difficult. The success of avoidance depends on how strictly you follow it. Initially, it will be very cumbersome, but you will learn to avoid offending over time.

Although regarded as less predictive than a skin prick test, blood allergy testing may help reduce positive allergen detection. If we can pinpoint fewer allergens, then avoidance becomes easy. Blood allergy or specific IgE (immunoglobulin E) testing is called immunoCAP (Capture test).

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you very much.

I will get my allergy test done by the end of this weekend. Please tell me the name of a drug that I can find here that has this Cromolyn. I was not able to find one.

Thank you.
