What could be done to manage keloids that are itchy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My issue is that I had my ears pierced a few years ago. But it did not heal well, and for the last four years, there has been a pea-sized keloid on the back of both ears. They do not hurt, but they can be itchy.

But it makes me nervous. It does not appear to be a good situation. Is there anything you can recommend to help me get rid of keloid? I am not interested in getting steroid shots. I want to get rid of my keloids naturally. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Keloid is an abnormal growth of fibrous tissues caused by a stimulus such as an abrasion, wound, or cut. It is not painful but unappealing and makes the bearer uncomfortable. It does not happen overnight, but it does take time. As a result, healing takes time.

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.

Treatment plan

For treatment, I suggest the following: 1. Take one teaspoon of baking soda, mix a few drops of lemon juice to make a paste, and gently apply on the keloid. Do this twice a day. 2. You can apply apple cider vinegar with a cotton swab twice daily. 3. Mix an equal amount of lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and aloe vera gel and apply on keloid twice daily. Along with these local medications, you should take Kanchanara Guggulu (Kanchanar, Haritaki, Bibhitaka) two tablets twice daily with warm water after meals.
