Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
It has been three weeks since these bumpy nodules started appearing all over my arms and legs. The prurigo nodularis is making me lose sleep. I scratch till I bleed most nights. Tried the steroid cream from my other doctor, but it just gets more raised and red. The itching is unbelievable, like bugs crawling under my skin constantly.
My skin is all scarred now from months of this hell. I have developed anxiety from not sleeping and constantly worrying about new bumps forming. My blood pressure medication seems to make it flare up worse. My mother had similar issues and ended up with terrible infections from scratching. Can you please tell me what treatments might work? I have read about Dupilumab, but I do not know if that is right for me. The nodules are getting bigger despite everything I try at home.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
I am sorry you are going through this. Dupilumab is a newer medication that may help reduce itching and bumps, especially in conditions like prurigo nodularis. Ask your doctor if it is right for you.
Other treatments include antihistamines, which sometimes ease itching, and topical steroids for small spots, though they may not always be effective. Phototherapy (light treatment) and immunosuppressants like Cyclosporine can also reduce inflammation.
To manage the itch, try to avoid scratching to prevent further skin damage, and use cooling creams like Calamine or Menthol. Stress management techniques may also help with anxiety and sleep. For skin care, keep your skin well-moisturized and avoid harsh scrubbing or irritation. Also, check with your doctor if your blood pressure medications might be worsening your skin condition, as alternatives may be available.
If you need any more clarification or help with your questions, feel free to ask.
Thank you.
