Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have mentioned that you are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and stomach pain. Kindly share more details about your issue, like the time duration of your symptoms, frequency, area of pain, BMI (body mass index), history, any reports taken that will aid in better diagnosis and treatment. You have not mentioned if you have any other co-existing conditions which could aggravate this problem. Multiple factors are involved in the onset and development of IBS. This problem is not uncommon at your age. But there is nothing to be afraid of since it is very much treatable once the underlying cause is ruled out and treated with proper medication.

Mainly, disturbances in dietary and sleeping habits, along with emotional stress, might serve to aggravate the incidence of this syndrome. Irritation of the cells covering the large intestine causes the body to overreact in response to injury, releasing certain chemicals and triggering the immune system to respond by producing inflammation. Although IBS could be a persisting condition, it is manageable with a regulated diet, sleep, and appropriate medications. A routine USG (ultrasound) abdomen would help rule out other possible causes of non-specific inflammation in your gastrointestinal tract and pain in the stomach like appendicitis.

However, from your brief mentioning of complaints, I recommend dietary changes, regulating sleeping habits, and meditation or yoga practices to achieve wholesome relief from the disease. Kindly mention your disease, along with your history, present complaints like how many times you are passing stools, any food allergy, pain area, frequency and intensity, current medications if taking any, your BMI, and test reports if any. It will be better to have an audio/video consultation of your choice at least once, to assess further accurate details about your present condition any other physical or emotional stress that could be causing your current problem to help me suggest more optimal medicines and enable your speedy recovery.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your help. I have taken medication for the problem mentioned above, IBS, and gallbladder polyps. I am also having a little piles issue. I was prescribed with following medicines: Thayir Chundi Chooranam and Sundaivatral Sooranam in the morning after completion of exercise and the evening, and tablet Keezhanelli in the afternoon session. I have started taking the prescribed medicines after yoga. But I am experiencing a little discomfort, slight nausea. I am worried if it could be a concern. Additionally, I would like to mention that I was diagnosed with gastritis, small gallstone, and IBS fifteen years back when I had undergone endoscopy. If I take oily food, acidity and stomach pain increases.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would like to know if you have taken Sundai Vatral and Thayir Chundi Chooranam on an empty stomach or after food; also, did you consume those medicines with water or buttermilk. It is better to consume these medicines with buttermilk and after food since you already have complaints of gastritis. You can continue taking tablet Keezhanelli in the afternoon. Hope you are practicing mild-moderate yoga and avoiding strenuous exercise. Taking the medicines after food with buttermilk could reduce the discomfort and nausea. Suppose you continue feeling nausea or discomfort with the above medicines (Thayir Chundi and Sundai Vattral chooranam) or after taking them. In that case, I recommend you to take the following medication for long-term relief from IBS, acidity, and stomach pain. These medicines will also help in relieving gastritis and piles. Tablet Bael - morning and night after food, Anda Legiyam - 0.105 to 0.17 ounces or one teaspoon morning and evening before food, Elathi Chooranam - 0.07 ounces or 1/2 teaspoon morning and night after food with milk, and you can continue taking Keezhanelli in the afternoons.

Dietary advice: To avoid the intake of chicken, bitter gourd, and tamarind during the entire duration of ingesting medicines. Avoid spicy foods and foodstuffs made with wheat, maida, ragi, or other millets. To consume more buttermilk and curd in the morning and afternoon; milk at night. To consume easily digestible foods like steamed rice and soft boiled veggies. To avoid potatoes and other tuber varieties, except yam.

Lifestyle changes: Regular eating and sleeping habits; avoiding nighttime work and daytime sleep; eating on time. Meditation and Pranayam (any breathing exercise) at least 15 minutes a day, daily morning. Brisk walking in the morning for 30 minutes daily; Leisure walking at night before sleep daily. Maintaining a relaxed mind and good physical activity. Regular oil bath once a week, depending on your Dehi or Prakruti.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have stopped taking foods that are spicy and contain refined flour for two years. When I feel hungry, I usually take biscuits or fruits. In the morning, after yoga, I used to take Sundavatral Choornam and Thayir Chundi Choornam with hot water to avoid cold. I am also taking multigrain powder made with dry fruits, millets, etc.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand you have been suffering from IBS for the past two years. Good to know that you are avoiding spicy food and taking more fruits. I recommend that you also prevent biscuits and millets. Instead, take green guava, nuts, figs, and dates, whenever you feel hungry in between meals. Taking these medicines with hot water on an empty stomach is not advisable for people with gastritis and acidity. Maybe you can take it after food with water.
