Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to use the product Detoxadine, which is a form of nascent iodine for detoxification. I recently was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden with two copies due to a blood clot in my superficial system. Per my hematology doctor, I must take a blood thinner, 20 mg of Xarelto, at night. Will there be any adverse reaction to taking both these medications at the same time? Will the nascent iodine make the Xarelto less effective? I took the nascent iodine a few years ago, before being prescribed to Xarelto and knowing of having the Factor V gene. Please provide some proof or study in your explanation. If you cannot, please give the best of your opinion if I should do this or not.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to iclinq.com.

I understand your help.

Although I could not locate any documented evidence that speaks of an obvious interaction of nascent iodine with Xarelto, I advise you not to use any iodine supplements without explicit concurrence by your hematologist. Again, both excess and deficiency of iodine are linked with thyroid disorders, and any consumption of supplemental iodine should be subject to requirement your physician's recommendation only.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
