Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had severe pain on the left side of my face for the past four days. There is a chipped tooth near the tooth I have pain. Painkillers like Ibuprofen and Codeine have not altered the pain. Previously, I have used Amoxicillin for the same issue. I had an infection before, but now it is worse. What can I do?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If the pain is near the tooth that is chipped in half, it is most probably due to an infection in the tooth. This can cause nerve irritation and inflammation, along with severe pain. In such cases taking painkillers alone will not relieve the pain. You need to consult a dentist and get an X-ray of the tooth done. If the tooth can be saved a root canal treatment has to be done to relieve the pain. If there is gross decay, then extraction or removal of the tooth has to be done. As of now, I suggest you take stronger painkillers like tablet Tramadol and Ketorolac. Consult your dentist and take medicines accordingly. Apply cold compresses over the cheek. Please get an X-ray done and send it to me so that I can evaluate it. Then I can suggest the best possible treatment for you. I hope this information will help you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
