Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had an anal fissure with two skin tags, for which I underwent surgery. After the operation, I have been experiencing significant pain on the left side of my lower abdomen, which radiates to my back. There is severe pain and a burning sensation in my abdomen, along with some mild discomfort at the surgical site. It also feels like some mucus or watery discharge is coming out. I am concerned about what could be causing these symptoms.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Thank you for sharing your symptoms. Pain radiating to the lower abdomen and back after anal fissure surgery, along with burning and mucus-like or watery discharge, could indicate several possibilities. Postoperative inflammation or infection is common after surgery and can cause pain, burning, and discharge, and may require antibiotics. There is also a possibility of an anal abscess or fistula formation, which can develop after fissure surgery and lead to pain and discharge. Irritation or sensitivity of the surrounding tissues may result in inflammation and slow healing, causing the pain to spread to the lower abdomen and back. While mild pain at the wound site is expected, excessive discharge and severe pain should be evaluated promptly.
It is important to consult your surgeon or a colorectal specialist as soon as possible. They may need to examine the wound, check for signs of infection, or perform imaging if necessary. In the meantime, keep the area clean and follow all postoperative care instructions carefully. If you develop a fever, worsening pain, swelling, or foul-smelling discharge, seek emergency medical care immediately.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
