Does natural background radiation add to cancer risk?

Hello doctor,

Does the natural background radiation level (3 mS v per year) add to cancer risk on top of a dose from medical imaging, or is natural radiation separate or safe since we all receive it?

I have a painful lump in my breast. Are my reports suggestive of a breast cancer?

Hi doctor,

I have a lump on my breast that is painful. It is on the right breast, under the underarms. I was given vitamin E medicine, and I was told to get ultrasound and FNAC. I have attached both my reports. The reports say FNAC smear prepared from right breast reveal abundant neutrophils admixed with few lymphocytes and some foamy macrophages. Few groups and sheets of benign ductal epithelial cells with apocrine changes in some of them is noted. Nuclear crowding and nuclear overlapping are also seen in some of these ductal cells. No granuloma or atypical cells are noted. Acute suppurative lesion of the right breast. Could you please tell me if the reports are suggestive of a breast cancer?

Can a patient with nasopharyngeal cancer who took the flu shot have false positive PET scan results?

Hello doctor,

I am a community pharmacist. I offered a flu shot to a newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal cancer patient. The patient then went in for a PET scan three days later. I did not know that the immune response can produce false positive results. Please answer the following questions: Did the flu shot cause false positive uptake in this patient's lymph nodes? If yes, will it be only in the axillary lymph nodes or all the nodes? How significant is this in affecting the PET scan result? Can I do anything for this patient? For future reference, what is the minimum time interval between the flu shot and the PET scan?

What could be the reason for an abnormal liver mass in a breast cancer patient?

Hello doctor,

I am a 60-year-old breast cancer patient for four years. My CT Scan and MRI reports show a lobulated hypodense lesion 0.9 x 0.9 inches (APO X T) in size in segment V of the right lobe of the liver closely abutting the right radical of the portal vein. It is also showing an arterialized pattern of enhancement and washout out of contrast on port venous and delayed phases. Another lesion is noted in segment II of the left lobe of the liver, having the size of 0.3 x 0.3 inches (AP X T). Tiny calcified granuloma is also seen in segment III. Moreover, a round fat density lesion of size 0.35 x 0.31 inches is also seen in the right adrenal gland. Kindly suggest me some treatment. I have undergone CP, PT, alpha-fetoprotein, PCR, and PTT. Currently, I am taking Femara, Lowplat, Omega, Neodipar, Levopraid, and Tenoret.
