The dental specialty which deals with the management of the inner soft tissue of teeth (dental pulp) is known as endodontics. Dental pulp is the innermost part of a tooth, which consists of living blood vessels, connective tissues, and nerves. The dentist who performs endodontic procedures on a patient’s tooth is called an endodontist.
Reasons for visiting an endodontist are constant tooth pain, sensitive teeth, swelling and pain in the gums and cheeks, small boil on the gums, and severe tooth decay. An endodontist performs root canal treatment on the infected tooth. In this treatment, the dental pulp is entirely removed by making a hole in the tooth. Any associated dental abscess or infection is also drained. After cleaning the entire root canal, it is filled with a biocompatible material and sealed off, as to prevent any reinfection.
If you see any black spot on your teeth (dental caries), consult an endodontist in person or online, and get it treated immediately. Delay in the treatment of dental caries leads to spreading of the infection deeper into the tooth and ultimately infects the dental pulp. The bacteria spread rapidly inside the tooth pulp and forms a pus-filled cyst at the root end.
